WHO WE ARE?

ALIF SOCIETY is a Non-Governmental Organisation whose members are mainly Muslim professionals and businessmen and whose aims, among others, are:

  • To promote the tertiary education of talented and ambitious youths with limited means
  • To build bridges among the different components of the Mauritian Rainbow.
  • To acknowledge Mauritians who have been asked to assume major responsibilities in the service of the country
  • To organise and also to attend international conferences to promote the ideals of Alif Society
  • To establish and keep friendly relations with:
    • Missions of friendly countries present in Mauritius
    • International Organisations which share the ideals of Alif Society.

WHAT WE DO

Establish close relations with good universities for the admission of our candidates. Collect zakat to finance the education of needy students. Organise receptions in honour of Mauritians who excel in the service of the country. Organise welcome meetings in honour of the new chiefs of mission of friendly countries. Attend international meetings for networking.

ALIF SOCIETY enjoys observer status at Asian Universities President Forum [AUPF], the Association of Southeast Asia Higher Institutions of Learning [ASAHIL] and at the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation [OIC].

Alif has established close contacts with some Asian Universities and arranged for the admission of Alif Students to undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Applicants for financial help from Alif undergo a means test for qualification.

So far, we have helped about 400 youths graduate[and counting] who are serving in Mauritius and abroad.
