The relationship of Alif with UPM started in 1998 when the President was attending an International Conference at Putra World Trade Centre organised by the International Islamic University. The Organisers had a put a premium on networking which program allowed the President to meet the Administration of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

A rich exchange took place between the President of Alif Society and the UPM’s top management, which exchange led to the signature of an MoU between the premier Malaysian University and Alif Society. The visionary Vice Chancellor of UPM, Tan Sri Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim acceded to the request of Alif Society to offer some seats each year to Mauritian top performers at HSC.

1999 saw the first Alif students joining UPM. To date, more than 200 Mauritian Youths have graduated  and are serving mainly in Mauritius and in Canada and UK.
